About me
Gene Bartlett is the Principal of Masterton Primary School and Lead Principal of the (RTLB) Remutaka Resource Teachers of Learning and Behaviour service, which provides specialised support to enhance learning and behaviour outcomes for students across 54 schools and 4,500 students. He specialises in special education, culturally responsive practice and student well-being, drawing on extensive leadership experience in New Zealand and abroad. A proud descendant of Ngāpuhi and Ngāti Porou, Gene integrates his Māori heritage into his leadership, fostering cultural identity and inclusivity. He is a passionate advocate for Te Ara Whakamana, a framework that enhances mana (strength and dignity) for students and educators. As President of the Masterton Principals' Association, Gene is dedicated to creating thriving educational environments for students, staff, and their whanau (family).
